The Granada Jazz Festival
To talk about Jazz in Granada is to celebrate one of the most awaited and awarded concerts in Europe. Our city is already preparing to welcome people from all over the world, who have been coming together since 1980 to honour one of the most famous and popular musical genres in the world.
It has been 40 years of uninterrupted celebration where musicians such as Bebo and Chucho Valdés, along with other jazz eminences, have made the Granada Jazz Festival a reference point for jazz lovers, where, in addition to learning about jazz and broadening their horizons, it is the perfect opportunity to visit Granada.
So, every autumn, the Isabel la Católica theatre is the venue for this annual meeting where, in addition to the enjoyment of unparalleled music, there are round tables and activities during the first days of November.

As a novelty this year, the 44th Granada International Jazz Festival will present an award in honour of Bill Evans, American composer and jazz pianist.
The Granada International Jazz Festival is the only Spanish member of the Europe Jazz Network.
120 musicians will fill Granada with Jazz in the programme included as Jazz en Paralelo with concerts and activities, creating an exciting atmosphere unique in Spain. In addition, this initiative will be accompanied by Cuban, hip and funk rhythms.
Some of the famous musicians who will be performing during the next few days in our city will be Theo Croker, Grammy Award winner and one of the most sought-after musicians in the United States, who will be in charge of opening this 44th Jazz Festival in Granada, along with Lakecia Benjamin and Bill Evans, among others.
In addition, Antonio Lizana will be performing at the La Chumbera theatre, with a Jazz Flamenco performance in front of the Alhambra. Very faithful to his essence and roots, he is considered one of the great masters of jazz made in Spain.
Jazz is a musical genre that originated in the second half of the 19th century in the United States and spread globally throughout the 20th century. In this way it emerged as a means of protest during the era of slavery of African people in the United States. This dose of improvisation, freshness and charm were the keys to the success of this fusion of culture called Jazz.
Buddy Bolden is considered by many to be a pioneer, the first musician of a musical style that would later be called jazz.
